

After high school Tom received his Bachelor's in Psychology from Mississippi College. He returned home and married the love of this life, Juanita and together they moved to Kentucky. There Tom received two Master's degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Now a Minister, they moved to several churches in Mississippi.
Due to his love of travel and ministry, Tom joined the Air Force as a Chaplain and served his country for the next 21 years, retiring as a Major. While in the military, he received his Doctorate of Divinity. After retiring from the military Tom returned to school for a teaching degree from Texas State University which he later used to teach math at Clark High School for seven years. Tom was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Wayne Black; mother, Texanna Tennessee Black and sister, Mattie Lou Moore.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita J. Black; daughter, Kimberly Jo Black; daughter, Cathy Ann Van Matre and her husband, David; son, Thomas Wayne Black, III and his wife, Deborah; son, Christopher Mark Black and his wife, Donna; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Costillo.
A traveler, teacher, proficient in many trades, he was known as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be missed by all his family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
