Thomas C.F. Brown, affectionately known as Tom to his friends and loved ones, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 17, 1940, Tom was a man whose life was defined by service, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to his family. His journey concluded at the age of 86, after a valiant battle with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and emphysema.
Tom's early years were spent in the bustling streets of Brooklyn, where he grew up as one of eleven children. His childhood was rich with the experiences that would shape his character – a blend of tenacity, warmth, and an ever-present sense of humor. Tom's path led him to San Antonio, Texas, where he would meet the love of his life, Barbara J. Vincik. Their marriage blossomed into a partnership that spanned six decades, filled with shared joys, challenges, and countless cherished moments.
A proud veteran, Tom served in the Air Force for six years as a communication specialist. His dedication to his country was mirrored in his commitment to his work post-military. Tom's career included roles in manufacturing at Data Point and later in accounting at Dixi Flags. His meticulous nature and strong work ethic were evident to all who worked alongside him.
Outside of his professional life, Tom was deeply involved with the Knights of Columbus through the Catholic Church, where he exemplified the values of charity and community service. His creative spirit found expression in his love for painting and photography. Tom had a unique eye for beauty, often capturing the essence of old buildings and nature in his hometown, then bringing them to life on canvas.
A man of diverse interests, Tom relished the simple pleasures in life. He was a skilled pool player, a cunning solitaire and poker player, and a regular at Monday night games with his friends. His green thumb was evident in the meticulously cared-for yard, adorned with vibrant flowers and cacti. Tom's passion extended to the finer things as well; he enjoyed taste testing various wines and bourbons.
Family was the cornerstone of Tom's life. He was a devoted father to his children, Joey and Mary Ann, and a father-in-law to Mark Sotello. His grandchildren, Mark Anthony and Jacquelyn, were the light of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to support them at their sporting events and extracurricular activities. Tom also shared a special bond with his grand-dogs, Hazel and Max, who brought him endless joy.
Tom was a familiar figure at McCollum High School, where he volunteered with the junior ROTC, sharing his experiences and wisdom with the younger generation. His presence was a source of inspiration and guidance for many. A consummate storyteller and communicator, he loved chatting on the phone with his family on the East Coast, keeping the bonds of kinship strong despite the distance.
Known for his faith-filled heart, Tom's legacy is one of love, creativity, and commitment. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, yet his spirit will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched.
Thomas C.F. Brown is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Barbara J. (Vincik) Brown, and his beloved son, Joseph E. V. Brown. He leaves behind a legacy of love and a family who will forever honor his memory, including his daughter Mary Ann, son-in-law Mark, grandchildren Mark Anthony and Jacquelyn, and his playful grand-dogs.
