Thomas Roberts Melville

Thomas Roberts Melville, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. Tom was born June 11, 1938 to Edna and Maurice Melville in San Antonio. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1956, he went on to the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1961, in Petroleum Engineering. He joined Dow Well immediately after graduation. After several years, Tom joined the Railroad Commission where he remained for 47 years. He retired in 2012. Throughout his life and career he formed long lasting, strong relationships and made an indelible impact on everyone he worked with. He was an avid golfer, skier and an incredible story teller. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Mary Frances Melville, the mother of his children; his dearest sister, Melinda Boyd; and his angelic niece, Mary Anna Boyd. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Melville, nee Austin; his son William R. Melville (Angela); his daughters, Jana Melville-Milward (Mark); Julia Ann Boen; step-daughter, Melanie Spencer; step-son, James Spencer; grandson, Caleb Melville; sister, Virginia Manning; lifelong friend, Ronald Herrmann, whom he loved as a brother; numerous extended family and long-time friends. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 4, 2021 with a Memorial Service to follow at Porter Loring Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital and San Antonio Humane Society.
