Tom was born on November 29, 1950, in Erie, Pa, to Thomas Sr. and Arlene Morton. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1968, Tom married Jeanette L. Davis on April 15, 1972. He graduated from Alamo Barber College before starting his own business, Morton’s The Hair Place, which he owned and operated for 50+ years. Tom loved his church family at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church and was very active with the youth and children’s programs, Drama Council, Chancel Choir, Super Adults and numerous other programs and committees. Tom loved, and for many years performed with, the local theater community of San Antonio. He performed on stages all around the city including Harlequin Dinner Theater, San Antonio Little Theater and The Josephine Theater as well as many productions at Laurel Heights. Tom loved his family, his church, his community and he loved life. He was gregarious, funny, intelligent and kind, with quick wit and a flair for the dramatic. Whether traveling with Jeanette or watching the Longhorns with his girls, Valerie and Laurie, Tom never met a stranger and was adored by his family, friends and clients. He also never met a dog that he didn’t instantly love and bond with. After his father retired from the Army, he cherished their time together playing golf. Tom’s greatest joy came from being “Poppie” to his granddaughter Charlotte-a role he treasured most. Nothing meant more to Tom than his family.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents Thomas C., Sr. and Arlene C. Morton, his in-laws James and Marylou Davis, and other in-laws.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife Jeanette, daughters Valerie Morton and Laurie Morton (Traci Rush), granddaughter Charlotte Rush-Morton, sister Cindy Furr, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, fur-baby Crackle and grand-dog Wilson.
A Memorial Service will be held at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, 227 W. Woodlawn, SA, TX, 78212, on Wednesday, July 9th at 11:00am with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to LHUMC Chancel Choir or Super Adults, or Christus Children’s Hospital.
Tom’s family is deeply grateful to the team at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, with special appreciation and love to Trinh.
