Tobin and I were close in college.  I loved him so much!  He had so much life, was so smart, and was really a free spirit.  I met him on a class field trip to Big Bend.  I remember hearing him tell people about Philmont about a dozen times during the trip.  Everyone wanted to hear about it.  I dropped him off and picked him up from Philmont one summer – one of the places that meant most to him.  We hiked up a mountain about a mile, but it was covered in snow, and we had to stop.  That’s the only time I’ve ever camped on top of snow.  I would have been afraid to do that if he hadn’t assured me we’d be okay.  He had so much knowledge of the outdoors.  He taught me most of what I know about hiking and camping.  He really enjoyed life, and had so much courage.  I remember him jumping into a raging stream that hadn’t quite died down from a recent flood – on a dare.  He swam at the springs in San Marcos.  He liked helping people – he worked as a lifeguard, and in search and rescue.  He was a great cook!  We had a pizza contest in college and his vegetarian pizza beat out the ones with meat.  No one thought that would happen (he was the only vegetarian), but it did!  To this day, I’ve still never met anyone more athletic than him.  He made everyone laugh with his Kramer impersonation every time he walked into our geology classroom.  He had so many talents and passions, and was just an overall good guy.  I was hoping to get back in touch and see what happened to him.  I’m so sad to see that he died!  I want to offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends.  I am sorry that I was not there for his funeral.

Tobin and I worked at Philmont a few summers... I had the fun experience of sharing bus tour duties with him at least once, hiking some mountain trails, and scraping out dutch ovens after the traditional first night peach cobbler.  I'll always remember his smile at the 8 o'clock meeting, and that feeling around him that something mischievous was about to happen -- or maybe already had. RIP my friend.

Toby was a high school & college buddy of mine.  He was very smart and full of adventure. I was saddend when I saw Toby's marker while I was visiting my dad. My condolences and prayers go out to him and his family.

I'll always cherish the 3 month we spent in field camp. The over night study sessions at UTSA. But most of all I miss my friend who was full of life and truly took the path less traveled.

Tobin was one in a billion with a spirit like no other. He will be greatly missed. Until we meet again Tobin

I enjoyed meeting Tobin and talking to him at The Clubhouse. His family will be in my prayers.

Tobin was a bright and burning soul, who's fire burned out much too soon. He was bursting full of magic to offer to the world. Tobin had a way of sharing ideas that would captivate and enlighten a room all at once.There was always a warm smile and friendly words for everyone he spoke to. For those who knew him he will be sorely missed, and nothing will ever quite fill the void left in his passing. No words will ever be enough to capture his memory. My condolences and well wishes to his family.
