Thomas Robert Menger passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 27, 2015 at the age of 64 after a long illness. He was born in San Antonio to the late Erich Menger, Jr and the late Lorine Stolte Menger. Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandad.
He is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Kathy Kaylor Menger, son, Nicholas, daughter, Sara and her husband, Jeff Gilreath, twin grandchildren, Hannah and Marshall Gilreath, brother, Erich Menger, III, sister, Lois, her husband, Danny, their children Casey and Holley Hickman, extended family and many friends. Tom was a devoted dog lover. His family always included at least one canine “child”. Emily, Charlie and “grand-dogs” Jade and Maggie, will miss his loving attention.
Tom attended Alamo Heights High School and San Antonio College. He was a long-time employee of Southwest Research Institute and proudly received a patent in 2006. As an avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed deer hunting and saltwater fishing. He spent island time each summer in Rockport. Most Sunday afternoons at home found him watching NASCAR or the Dallas Cowboys.
A memorial service will be held in the Rock Chapel at Coker United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Tom’s name to KSYM, his favorite radio station. Go to sacrtfnet.alamo.edu for information.
