Tomasita Tamez Carrington went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2016. She was 88 years old and lived a long and wonderful life with her husband of many years, her four children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She traveled the world experiencing many cultures as a selfless military spouse, always giving of herself to others; serving as Church Secretary, President of the United Methodist Women, and longtime member of the choir. A further testament to her dedication to others was her role as the primary caregiver to her husband during his long and protracted illness. Another selfless act was demonstrated while stationed overseas when she and Charles adopted and loved unconditionally, her youngest two children. Instead of thinking of herself, she decided to share her home to these children in need. Always thinking of others, always caring for others, that is the Tomasita we all loved so much.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Carrington, Jr., MSgt, USAF, Ret.; her parents, Paula and Gilbert Tamez; her brothers, Gilbert, Lupe, Manuel; and sisters, Lydia and Gloria. She is survived by her children, Lance (Rosie) Carrington, Ret. Senior Executive Service (USPS, NASA) of Stafford, Virginia, Colonel Lisa Carrington Firmin, USAF, Ret., of San Antonio, Texas, Charles (Amye) Carrington of Coppell, Texas and Ana Lorena Betancourt of San Benito, Texas; grandchildren, Jon Carrington, Joanna Carrington (Mitch) Young, Evan Carrington (April) Firmin, Kevin Betancourt, Jessica Tomasita Carrington, Jennifer Carrington, Joelle Carrington; great grandchildren, Mateo, Gabriel, Phoebe, Elizabeth, Troy and Elias; sister, Leonor Tamez Vallery of Converse, Texas and brother, Pete Tamez of Mesquite, Texas; sister-in-law, Sofia Tamez of Rockport, Texas and brother-in-law, CW Carrington of Vista, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, February 15, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with chapel service on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Tomasita was known to many and loved by all; called lovingly Tome, Tomasa, Tommie, Ma, Mom, Mother, Grandma, and Mimi by her great grandchildren. She will be missed, but has gone home, is at peace and in the best garden there is.
