Tommy Lyons was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on New Year's Day at age 74. His parents, Howard, Martha and sister Kay preceded him in death. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University and Southwestern Seminary. He served churches in college as minister of music and youth in Hart and Hale Center, TX. During Seminary years, he served in Hurst and Fort Worth, TX.
He married Charlotte Goodman from Dallas in June of 1970 and they served 5 years at First Baptist Church, McKinney. In 1975, they accepted the call to Trinity Baptist Church here in San Antonio, serving 27 years as Minister of Music alongside Buckner Fanning as pastor. Tommy directed The Living Christmas Tree for 20 years and was director of Singing Men of South Texas for over 30 years.
He retired from Northeast Baptist Church in 2014. Tommy had Parkinson's disease and Dementia.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte and son, Charlie and wife Cindy. A Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, at 2 pm at The Fellowship of San Antonio. Anyone is welcome to sing in a joint choir meeting at 1 pm.
