Trinidad “Trini” F. Rendon peacefully entered into eternal life in Heaven on Sunday, February 9, 2025 in Floresville, Texas at the age of 93. Trini was born in 1931 in Dilley, Texas, and in 1951, he graduated from Dilley High School, where he played football and baseball. He attended San Antonio College and Florida State University (Panama Canal Zone Campus). He served forty-five years in federal service (USAF and Federal Civil Service combined).
Trini married Francisca “Panchita” Garza of Cotulla, Texas in 1956. Their three sons followed in their father’s footsteps completing a career in the Air Force.
Trini served 20 years in the Air Force (1951 – 1971). During Trini’s Air Force career, he served at Lackland, Kelly, Biggs (El Paso) and Randolph Air Force bases. His overseas assignments included Fairbanks, Alaska; Dhahran Air Field, Saudi Arabia; and two tours in the Panama Canal Zone—Albrook Air Force Base and Quarry Heights Military Reservation (Telecommunications). He also served as Protocol NCOIC, USAF Southern Command Protocol, Albrook Air Force Base, accompanying the USAFSO Commander on official visits to different countries in South America. In addition to his Air Force duties in Panama, Trini found time to be a little league baseball coach and a boy scout troop leader for eight years.
Trini retired from the USAF Security Services Command at Kelly AFB in 1971. His military decorations included the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Longevity Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Duty Award.
Trini started his second career with the Federal Civil Service in 1972 as a Coding Clerk in the Fort Sam Houston Adjutant General’s Division, Military Personnel. In 1975, he became Property Book Officer, responsible for millions of dollars worth of property and equipment. He served directly under 14 adjutants in a 21-year span. He also represented the Adjutant Division as an Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor for five years. During his service, he was awarded several exceptional performance ratings, certificates of special recognition, and high appraisal ratings.
Some of the highlights of Trini’s 45 years of Federal Service were visiting the Holy Land and Athens, Greece; driving with his family via the Pan American Highway from San Antonio to the Republic of Panama on his second tour of duty without even a tire blow-out; and having his civil service retirement certificate presented by Lieutenant General Marc A. Cisneros in the presence of his family.
After his second retirement, Trini worked at the Trevino Funeral Home on Cupples Road for eight years. There he provided compassionate support to families grieving their loved ones.
Active in the Catholic Church, Trini and Francisca were both members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, where Trini was a member of the Pastoral Council and the Knights of Columbus.
Trini took great pride in his military and federal service as well as his service at the funeral home. He devoted his life in service to others. His faith in God sustained him throughout his life. He was often heard saying “Gracias, a Dios!” He touched many lives here on earth with his kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His last breath on this earth was his first breath in Heaven. This is not “Good-bye” it is “So long, until we meet again in Heaven.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18)
Trini is preceded in death by his parents Trinidad B. and Romana Rendon, his sisters, Freya Mirta Rendon Garcia and Alma Rendon Vergara, and his brother, Raul R. Rendon, Sr.
Trini is survived by his wife Francisca of 70 years, his sons Trini II (Teresa), Roland (Hortencia), and Rene (Juanita), and grandchildren Frances, Felicia, Jessica (Justin) and great-grandchildren Marie, Isaac, and Olivia. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The Rendon family would like to thank the staff at the Frank Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas and the staff at Embrace Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate support of Trini Rendon.
A visitation will be held on 5 March, 2025 at 5:00 PM at Trevino Funeral Home 226 Cupples Road with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will take place on 6 March at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Interment will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
