Troy was born on March 29, 1960, at the old Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, to Richard Falslev Hoopes and Vivian Jones Hoopes. He grew up in the Riverdale and Washington Terrace areas of Utah, attended Bell Junior High School, and graduated from Bonneville High School and Latter-day Saint Seminary in 1978.
Music was an important part of Troy’s life. During his junior and senior years of high school, he played bass guitar in a country band that performed at clubs throughout Utah. It was through music that he met his future wife, Margaret Wooton, in their junior-year concert choir class.
A man of deep faith, Troy loved his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. That faith was central to the life he and Margaret built together. On July 28, 1978, they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In August 1978, Troy joined the United States Air Force as a medic, beginning a distinguished 21-year military career. He earned numerous commendations and attained the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7). His service took him and his family around the world and included deployments to Europe and the Middle East.
Throughout his military service, Troy and Margaret raised their two children, Nathan and Nicole. Troy also pursued his education, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Park College and a master’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1999, Troy settled with his family in San Antonio, Texas, where he and Margaret built their longtime family home. He began a second, longstanding career as a software developer and computer programmer with Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP. He loved his work and took pride in his profession.
Troy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Margaret; his son, Nathan; his sisters, Connie Kaufman and Paulene Coleman, both of Ogden, Utah; his stepmother, Betty Hoopes, of Bountiful, Utah; his mother-in-law, Beth Brunner, of Boerne, Texas; his brothers-in-law, Kevin Wooton and his wife, Shelia, of Boerne, Texas, and Billy Wooton and his wife, Cel, of the Philippines; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Falslev Hoopes and Vivian Jones Buck, and his daughter, Nicole René Hoopes.
Troy will be remembered for his deep faith, his love of music, his service to his country, and the life he shared with his family. His memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
