He was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, The Industrial College of the Armed Forces, the San Antonio Art Institute..with specialized courses at Texas A & M, Northrop Aeronautical Institute and the Air University. During military service he was a pilot civil engineer and for 12 years an admissions counselor at the Air Force Academy. In civilian life he was President of Pogue & Pogue Inc. (Const. & R.E.) and he taught at Alamo Heights High School after retirement.
His life long interest in the outdoors and in youth development was reflected by 10 years as Cub Master, Scout Master and Explorer Advisor at St. Pius X where he received the St. George Award for Catholic Scouters. He also served for many years as a board member of YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, serving 2 terms on the Vestry, actively engaged for 12 years in Mission Work in Mexico and CA. He served also as a member of the Diocese of West Texas "World Mission Division" and "La Consulta Episcopal Internacional".
He was an Ambassador at The Laurels, where he lived __ years. At that same time he was commissioned by The Alzheimer's Association to create a painting for them to use in their yearly fundraising Gala.
He was preceded in death by 1st wife, Virginia Ostring Pogue, son, Stephen H. Pogue, III and 2nd wife, Janice K. Pogue.
Survivors: Sons, Dennis Kerry Pogue and Brian David Pogue, of San Antonio, TX. Daughters, Pamela Pogue Scully of Woodland Park, CO and Laura Pogue MacMillan of Keller, TX and her husband, Michael. Brother, James "Pat" Pogue of San Antonio, TX and his wife, Elsa. 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. Wife, Judith. John Bendele Jr. Walt Scully.
