

Vanessa Jeanne Martinez age 38, died on Monday, May 6, 2019. Born December 19, 1980 into the Martinez family; parents Steve and Jeanne and big brother Greg, Vanessa was their Christmas baby. Her life began as a challenge by being born with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot, but through modern medicine Vanessa was able to live 38 years and experience life to the fullest.
Vanessa attended Braun Station Elementary School and Coke Stevenson Middle School. She graduated from Communication Arts High School in San Antonio in 1999 where she focused on photography. Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in Geography-Geographic Information Science in 2004 from Texas State University.
She enjoyed serving her community by volunteering for The Texas Adopt-A-Beach Program and Young Neighbors in Action through Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes.
Her life long career began with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), Department of Defense and included positions in Washington DC, St Louis, and San Antonio. Additionally, she volunteered for a six-month tour in Baghdad, Iraq supporting the Multinational Forces.
Vanessa became a mother in 2010 with the birth of her daughter Ainsley and again in 2013 when she delivered her son Alexander. She cared very deeply for her two children and put their well-being above all else. Vanessa was previously married to Matthew McCrossen, the father of Ainsley and Alexander.
Among her many interests, she enjoyed nature and the outdoors, going to the beach with Ainsley and Alexander, travel, and music. She also had a strong love for animals and had many different pets, including rescue cats, chickens, fish, tadpoles, and turtles.
In spite of her heart condition, she lived a very full life and was blessed in many ways. Vanessa passed away due to complications related to an acute infection. Vanessa will be remembered for her strong independent spirit, caring nature, professional success and sense of adventure.
She is survived by her daughter, Ainsley McCrossen; son, Alexander McCrossen; parents, Esteban "Steve" F. Martinez, Jr. and Jeanne Valverde Martinez; brother, Greg Martinez and his wife, Kyra.
Visitation will be held in San Antonio on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Porter Loring located at 1101 McCollough Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212.
