Vera Foster Irby, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. Vera was born on May 30, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas to Grover & Nora Foster.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, Barton Irby; daughters, Amory A. Irby and Aletha L. Irby; sister-in-law, Nelle I. Olive; and various nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Roland H. DeLeon officiating. Interment will military honors at Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fort Sam Houston Main Post Chapel (Gift Chapel), New Century Hospice or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank everyone at Home Instead and New Century Hospice for the loving care of mother.

Amory, I knew your mom through the San Antonio Calligraphers Guild for over 30 years. I always enjoyed her.
She always spoke so highly of you girls and her husband. I remember meeting you on various occasions.
