

He was born May 6, 1936, on Buffalo Mountain, Oklahoma to Manley F. and Beulah McDougal Sparks.
Verlon met his wife Jo in 1955 in Colorado and married her in June of 1956 in California. Their first son, Ken, was born in California and their second son, David, was born in Colorado.
The family then traveled to Missouri, Corpus Christi, TX, and finally San Antonio, arriving in 1966.
Verlon had numerous jobs, but had always wanted to be a nurse. At the age of 50, he was able to make this dream come true. He worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse until his retirement at the age of 70.
He was very active with the Church of the Nazarene, especially Children's Church, using puppets and ventriloquism to deliver the Word of God, and later as NYI President.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Verdon, Margie, Ellen and Bill.
Verlon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jo Sparks; son, Ken V. Sparks and wife Tracy; son, David W. Sparks and wife Mary; granddaughter, Krista Gilreath and husband Jason; granddaughter, Katy Taylor and husband Josh; grandson, Caleb Sparks; grandson, Joshua Sparks; granddaughter, Kaitlin Sparks; granddaughter, Emily Sparks; grandson, David Michael Sparks; grandson, Benjamin Sparks; grandson, Jonathan Sparks; grandson, Eli Sparks; great-grandchildren, Kristen, Christopher and Daniel Bradley, and Emerson and Witten Taylor; and brother, John (J.O.) Sparks.
