Vern Florence Hintz Robinson

Verna Florence Hintz Robinson passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 10, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas. Verna Florence was born on March 30, 1920 in Texarkana, Texas to Verna Edwards and John Emil Hintz.

After the death of her mother, she was raised by her paternal grandparents, Augusta and Charles Hintz in Sealy, Texas.

She moved to Mexia, Texas in 1925 with her two aunts Sadie and Mary Hintz to live with her father. At Mexia High School, she carried the United States flag for the band and graduated in 1937 as Salutatorian of her class. That same year she was crowned Miss Fiesta Mexia.

She attended SMU where she earned her bachelor's degree in English. During her four years in Dallas, she was initiated into Chi Omega Sorority and was named a Rotunda Yearbook Beauty for two years.

After graduation, she taught elementary school in Yoakum and Mexia, Texas.

She married Reginald L. Robinson in 1947 and moved to Fort Worth in 1948 where she lived for 56 years. She was active in the Fort Worth Woman's Club, where she served as president of the Etta Newby, Bible Study and the Garden Clubs.

She also served as president of Fort Worth Pan-Hellenic and was a member of Carousel and Roundelay Dance Clubs, the Forth Worth Petroleum Club, Ridglea Country Club, the English Speaking Union and the First United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed a variety of classes at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and supported the Kimble Art Museum. In 2004, she moved to San Antonio.

Verna is preceded in death by her husband Reginald.

She is survived by her loving family including her children, John Lawrence Robinson of Los Angeles, California and Susan Lane and husband Bill of San Antonio; two grandsons Jim Lane of San Antonio and Chris Lane of Houston; and cousin Carlos Wayne Hintz, his wife Faye and son Chad of Sealy, Texas; brother in law James V. Robinson of Austin; niece Elizabeth Flahie of Longview, Texas; and nephew Richard Ray of Marshall, Texas as well as many dear friends throughout the state.
