

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy McCartee and Goldie Evans McCartee Chenoweth of Gove, Kansas, her first husband Major Andre Pascal and her second husband, Master Sargent Joseph Vocke. She is survived by her children Neal Pascal, (Linda) and Cherie Pascal Bartoskewitz, (Dennis); grandchildren, Brandon Bartoskewitz, (Ashley), Jennifer Pascal, Brittany Bartoskewitz & Tiffany Pascal.
Verna grew up on a farm in Kansas. She took first place in many spelling Bee’s throughout her school years. Her mother was a rural school teacher, home maker, seamstress & farmer. Her father served in World War I in France and was a blacksmith & farmer. After graduating from high school, she moved to Denver, Colorado to attend business school. Denver is where she met & married Lieutenant Andre Pascal. The wedding ceremony took place under the military swords. They were stationed in many bases in Europe over the years. Verna worked as a legal assistant &court reporter on several bases and made a career of it when Andre was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. She worked over 35 years & retired at Ft. Sam Houston in the Judge Advocates Office as a well-known & respected legal assistant &court reporter. San Antonio, Texas is where she made her home for over 40 years. Verna was a diehard San Antonio Spurs fan, watching every game. Throughout her adult life, Verna traveled the world extensively. China, Russia, Europe, Greece, Alaska Hawaii & throughout the U.S.. The Swiss Alps & Alaska being her favorites. Verna was an amazing & competitive card player, hosting bridge & other card games regularly. She also played the piano beautifully. Some of her hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting & her favorite being shopping & decorating. She had a love for pets as well. Having many cats & dogs in her lifetime, some she took in after they were abandoned. Verna enjoyed raising her dear children & spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored & cherished. Verna will be deeply missed by all.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 beginning at 11:00 A.M. followed by the graveside service and interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 P.M.
