Versa Lee Brown

Versa Brown, 100 years young, passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the comfort of her home, on Wednesday September 23, 2026. She and her husband, Henry Miller Brown Sr, were residents of Windcrest, Texas since 1992.

Versa Lee Gibson was born January 14, 1926 in a small country town called Wharton, Texas. She was the 3rd child of 7 children born to Patrick “Pat” Gibson Jr and Ivory “Ivie” Johnson Gibson.

Versa married Henry Miller Brown Sr on October 9, 1947 in San Antonio, Bexar County Texas. They became proud parents of 5 children: 2 Daughters and 3 Sons of which they named: Linda Marie, Shirley Ann (Robert L Jones); Henry Miller Jr (Shawn); Eldredge Paul; and Micheal Lawrence (Fe).

Versa was an extraordinary woman. She was a very HUMBLE, yet STRONG, THOUGHTFUL, WISE, and GIVING person. Versa wore many hats in her lifetime. But the most important hat of all was that of being a loyal and devoted wife, a great mother and grandmother. She was never a complainer. Always putting her children and family first.

She not only raised 5 children, but she took on the responsibility of caring for her mentally disabled brother- in-law (J.B. Brown, aka “Lincoln”), for over 40 years without any pay or accolades. She, and Henry Sr, also brought other family members from Texas to live with us and to help them get a new start, when they lived in California.

Versa lived a good life with her faith rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a faithful and loyal servant to her Creator. She even taught Sunday school at her church until well into her nineties.

Her Hobbies were: Seamstress, Hat-Maker (Milliner), ceramicist, and cooking. Her favorite color was green, any shade.

Versa was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M Brown Sr (54 years of marriage); her parents, her 6 siblings: Earnest Gibson (Elsie Young Gibson); Dora Mae Gibson Crenshaw (James Crenshaw & Ezell Gentry); Juanita Gibson (Freddie Lee Miles); Lillie Mae Gibson; Lloyd Gibson; Onrea “Buster” Gibson (Estelle Baines Gibson). One grandson Jamal Devon Brown. Her brother-in-law, J.B. Brown, and several other nieces and nephews.

Versa is survived by:

10 Grandchildren: LaShan Renee Brown, Nicole Michelle Samuels, Paul Trevon Brown, Corey Eugene Samuels (Pauline), Tamika Roshelle Jones DeCambra (Ray), Shannon Terrell Brown (Rose), Brianne Michelle Brown, Brennen Michael Brown, Brielle Dollina Brown, and Brailon Dylon (Jessica).

8 Great-Grandchildren: Paul “P.J.” Brown, Precious Pauline Brown Ruffins (Casey), Nicolai Rae DeCambra, Jaiden Rae DeCambra, Tiana Elizabeth Samuels, Jasmine Marie Samuels, Milo Brown and Sanaya Brown.

5 Great-Great-Grandchildren: Milo Brown, Silas Blue Paul Brown, Onsey Ruffins, Kyzen Ruffins, and Marzel Ruffins.

Also survived by her sister-in-law, Lorice Brown Wilson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
