

Vicente Martinez, M.D. COL, USAF, MC Ret. Was born August 20, 1926 in Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico and passed away on June 6, 2012 in San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Antoinette R. Posatko and his children, Maria Sabina Massey (Earl), David J. Martinez (Minerva Patricia Galindo) and Lisa Annette Kelley (Scott), 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He served his country for 42 years as an Air Force Physician, Obstetrician, Flight Surgeon, Hospital Commander and Major Command Surgeon of the Southern Command. His final assignments were at Wilford Hall Medical Center and Randolph AFB. During the last 14 years as a civilian, he was in charge of the Medical Board at WHMC. He was a recipient of 5 Commendation Medals, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 3 Legion of Merits and the Distinguished Civil Service Medal. He was a descendant of the Velazco Family, Condestables de Castilla, Duques de Frias, of all Conquistadores of the North of Mexico, and founders of many cities including San Antonio, TX. He was a relative of the Kings of Spain of the Trastamara Dynasty. He was a member of the Bexarenos Genealogic Society and The Patronato of the Cultural Hispanic-American Society. He loved his faithful companions and members of his family, Basenjis (Coco and Tabby), Dobermans (Brandy, Kaiser and Tanya), and his retired Greyhound racers (Conchita and Betsy). Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 13 from 5PM to 9PM at Sunset Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7PM. A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 14 at 9AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate, with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
