Vicente O. White, 93, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving children on February 8, 2025. Born in Laramie, Wyoming, to Charles and Maria de Jesus White, Vicente was one of eleven siblings and is now reunited with those who preceded him in death: Manuel, Roy, Ben, Tere, Carlos, Lupe, Jorge, Juan and Jose (who passed in infancy).
His family moved to Laredo, Texas, during his childhood and he attended Martin High School. He then proudly answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army in 1956 and serving during the Korean War.
It was in Laredo that he met Juanita, the love of his life and his soulmate. They moved to East Chicago, Indiana, where Vicente worked as a steelworker until his well-earned retirement in 1988. For 53 beautiful years, Juanita and Vicente built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They were blessed with five wonderful children: Vicente Onofre Jr. (Rachel), Melissa Diane, Gabriel Jesus (Iris), Abigail (Jesse), and Juancarlos (Myrna). Later in life, they returned to Laredo before settling in San Antonio.
Vicente was a devoted and loving grandfather to Vicente Onofre III, Carlos Randy, Juanesteban, Alyshia Rachelle, Bane, Jordis, Juancarlos Jr., and Catalina, and a cherished great-grandfather to Adonis Joaquin. His grandchildren were a constant source of joy and filled his heart with pride.
A man of deep faith, Vicente was a devout Catholic. He found comfort and strength in his relationship with God, regularly attending Sunday mass and beginning each day with a quiet moment of prayer and reflection. He also found joy and community at the St. Matthew's Senior Center, where he painted. His colorful canvases became a treasured legacy for his family. Beyond his artistic talents, Vicente possessed a remarkable knack for fixing things – from cars and plumbing to construction projects, he could tackle it all. His children fondly remember countless hours spent alongside their dad, learning the art of tinkering and creating, memories that will forever warm their hearts.
Vicente will be lovingly remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering patience, his deep devotion to his family, and his wonderful sense of humor. He loved to have fun, and his playful spirit always brought laughter to family gatherings. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and a life well-lived, a testament to the enduring power of family and the importance of cherishing every moment.
