Victor E. COL Chandler

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Loretta Chandler; his father, George Manly Chandler and his older brother, George Manly Chandler, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife, JoAnn Flannagan Chandler, whom he met and married in 1957 while on recruiting duty in Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter, Alice Ann Ahlstrom and son-in-law Ralph Ahlstrom; daughter, Victoria Jean Short; granddaughters, Melissa Ann Collins and Stormy Sierra Short; great-grandsons, Christopher Joseph Collins, Jr. and Jeremiah Nicolas Collins.

As a young boy, he moved from Victoria to Austin with his mother, father and brother in 1939. He attended the public schools there, graduating from Austin High School in 1948. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Austin. Graduating from Texas A&M in 1952, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. He served in Korea in the early 50's and served two tours in Vietnam 63-64 and 70-71. He served in command positions from Weapons and Rifle Platoon Leader, a Company Commander twice, Battalion Commander and as Deputy Brigade Commander during his second tour in Vietnam. He served in key staff positions from battalion, battle group, brigade, division corps and Army level.

A decorated combat infantryman, he was awarded the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal and the Army Medals of Gallantry, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Senior Parachutist Badge, he was the recipient of many campaign medals. He served in the Infantry, Airborne and Special Forces. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a life member of the American Legion, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and belonged to various hunting organizations.
