Victoria M. Torres, went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2018 surrounded by her family, angels and friends. Victoria was born on March 6, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maria de Jesus and Panfilo Martinez; her loving husband, Alonso S. Torres; daughter, Pauline Torres; brother in law, Seferino S Torres; son in law, Jose Duron I, brother, Armando Martinez; sister, Cruz (Rosendo) Lopez; grandson Emanuel Torres; and pets: Blackie, Blondie, Fifi, Chiquita, Skipper 1 & 2, Angie, Ginger and parakeets.
Religion, family, and education were Victoria’s priorities. She was a devoted Catholic, baptized at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church downtown and was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church for numerous years. Her faith carried her through many struggles in life including becoming a widow at the young age of 39 and struggled with many complications of diabetes. She dedicated her life to providing for her 14 children, instilling the importance of education in each generation and provided a loving, hospitable home to family and friends. On her free time Victoria enjoyed watching her novelas, listening to Mexican music (favorite station being 107.5), and mariachi music. She had a green thumb and a special place for pets. She loved and nurtured all types of pets and shared most of her life with cats, dogs, birds and rabbits. She loved being in the presence of her family and celebrating holidays especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and birthdays. Victoria had her special touch in the kitchen and was known for making the best tamales. A beautiful and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend who will be missed dearly.
Victoria is survived by her children: Ramona Duron, Alonso Torres, Concepcion Alanis (Luis), Herminia Alanis (Albert), David Torres (Yolanda), Mary E. Torres, Guadalupe Fernandez (Alfred), Celia Lopez (Mitchell), Manuel Torres, Rosie Reschman (Gabriel), Daniel Torres, Cruz Torres, and Alejandro Torres; siblings: Guadalupe Fabela, Anastacia Rangel, Margarita Castillo (Julian), Gloria Salas (Leonard/Caesar), Panfilo Jr. Martinez (Eperanza); 20 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Victoria’s care givers, Martha Gonzales (Colonial Agency), Marie Ibarra (Alma Mia), Carmen Dixson (Resilient), Sandra Llano (Resilient), Sheila Aleman (Estrella), Elsa Martinez (Concord), Dr. Kristy Clark and Dr. Jorge Alvarez, and the Ministry with OLOG.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Victoria’s honor to Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, The American Diabetes Association and The Humane Society. In Victoria’s honor the family requests that you may wear lavender to her visitation which will be held from 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be at 9am, Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes. Interment will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, August 16 at 11:30 a.m in shelter 3.
