Virginia Gray Jeffers (aka "Big Sis" and "Aunt Gray") passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025 at home with her family by her side. Gray, born on January 18, 1968 in Austin, Texas, was a gift to anyone and everyone who knew her. You either loved Gray or you had a love-hate relationship with Gray but the word love was always first. She was feisty, spirited, funny, strong, opinionated, but most of all she was loyal. She loved her family so very much. She was predeceased by her parents, Billie and Bill Jeffers and, even though they passed away over 20 years ago, she never stopped talking about them. Gray was born with challenges but due to the early intervention, love and support her parents gave her during her early years, she grew up to be fully functional and lived happily and independently for many decades.
When in recent years it became evident Gray needed more assistance, she moved into the home of her sister Aimee and brother in law, Stacy. It was a wonderful environment with Gray and Stacy bantering back and forth as her dad did years ago...her dad, Bill, was a jokester and Stacy happily stepped up to fill that void and Gray secretly loved it (the primary joke being Stacy telling Gray that La Fonda-her favorite restaurant-had a vegetable plate special that day and she should order that instead of her favorite cheese enchilada plate). Gray lived with Aimee and Stacy until her passing. As she gradually became in need of more assistance, Aimee happily stepped up to help her sister; but, it was Stacy who was the real hero...Stacy, who had no obligation to take care of Gray, did so daily with joy, laughter and kindness.
Gray changed the lives of so many people unknowingly...her sister Aimee, her brother in law Stacy, her nieces and nephew, Peyton, Parker and Patience. The charts of the lives of them, and those of many other people, were altered in miraculous ways due to knowing and loving Gray.
One of Gray's greatest sources of joy was that of being an aunt. She loved being called Aunt Gray. Her two nieces and nephew grew up with Gray being a mainstay in their daily lives. They loved Gray and she loved them...and, as they grew up, they turned into wonderful sources of love, support and care for Gray...the impact Gray has had on their lives is immeasurable.
Gray leaves behind many loved ones. Her sister Aimee and her brother in law Stacy, her nieces Peyton and Patience and her nephew Parker; her beloved maternal aunt Virginia and uncle Gary Koehl; her paternal uncle Ed Jackson; her "adopted" family of the extended Locke clan who graciously and wholeheartedly welcomed her into their fold over 30 years ago; and many other beloved cousins and relatives.
An incredible amount of gratitude goes to her faithful caregivers without which Gray would not have had as great of a life as she did in her final months..Marisela and Victor Quiroz-our heroes...Elizabeth, Leslie, Paty and numerous other members of Marisela and Victor's family and team.
Thank you to her home away from home for over 30 years...Reaching Maximum Independence...Stephanie and the RMI family gave her a life beyond what any of us could have ever dreamt for her. To Mac, thank you for bringing joy to her life and making her days better.
Big Sis/Aunt Gray...Godspeed...it was an honor and a joy to have you in our lives.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave San Antonio, TX 78212.
