Virginia Eley Kirk

Our mom, grandmother, and great grandmother, Virginia Eley Kirk (Puddy), passed away peacefully on September 7, 2022. A resident of San Antonio since 1963, she was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 1, 1927, to Wade Smith Eley and Virginia Strausz Eley.

Virginia attended school in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in Psychology. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. There she met her husband, James Read Kirk (Jim), after his return from military service during WWII. Virginia and Jim moved to Dearborn, Michigan after marriage where they enjoyed playing golf, poker, and bridge and traveling with friends. In 1963, they moved to San Antonio where she met many lifelong friends. She was an expert bridge and poker player and continued playing both until the very end. Virginia was quite the social butterfly. She loved going to parties and happy hour was an opportunity to visit with friends. Another of her greatest pleasures in life was spending Thanksgiving in Port Aransas with her entire family.

Virginia is preceded in death by Jim, her husband of 68 years. She is survived by their 4 children: James Clifford Kirk, Katherine Virginia Bray (David), Pamela Read Velasco (Peter), Suzanne Patricia Molak (Pat); as well as 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

We will miss her dearly. Her love of family and her always ready to party spirit will long be remembered and cherished.

A private family service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband, Jim.
