Virginia Guido McDaniel passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the age of 79. She was born on July 23, 1927, to Florence Sirianni and Louis L. Guido, Sr., both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dora Guido Pisano.
Virginia was a lifelong resident of San Antonio. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1944 and also graduated from Incarnate Word in 1948 with a BA degree in Biology and a minor in Math. When she was a senior at IWC, she was president of Alpha Delta Sorority and was a member of numerous other clubs.
In 1949, she went to work at the Foundation of Applied Research a branch of Southwest Research Institute doing cancer research where she met the love of her life, Malcolm Reid McDaniel. They were married September 5, 1952, while he was an Ensign in the U.S. Navy.
In 1968, she was Chairman of the Ladies Activities for the Texas Air National Guard State Convention held in San Antonio. She was active in establishing the Incarnate Word College Alumnae Association and devoted six years as a member of the IWC Development Board in the 1970's. She was a charter member and helped organize the Texas Air National Guard Wives Club.
She distinguished herself in her profession and was honored in 1973 as Salesman of the Year by the San Antonio Board of Realtors after only two years in business. She also earned the privilege of being a graduate of the Real Estate Institute GRI. She was a Life Member and former Director of the San Antonio Board of Realtors and also served as a Director for the Texas Association of Realtors. She was very involved with the San Antonio Board of Realtors activities and served on many committees. She was Chairman of the Program Committee in 1979, and chaired the Publicity Committee in 1981 which created the still popular slogan "Rely on a Realtor". She has always been proud of that. She also served as Chairman of the Attendance and Welcoming Committee for five years. She worked as a realtor with Guy Chipman Co. for almost ten years and also was affiliated with RE/MAX Metro for a number of years before going into business for herself for 12 years prior to her retirement in 1996.
She loved to help people solve their problems and that is probably why she loved her career so much in the Real Estate business for 25 years. Real Estate was her "forte' after staying home for 17 years to raise her three daughters. Virginia was a loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Malcolm McDaniel; daughter, Leslie Diane Moore of Houston; Susan Dell and Craig Caddell of Medina; and Martha Jo McDaniel of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Justin Moore and Bradley Moore of Houston; Virginia Katherine "Katie" Caddell of Bandera and Rodney Duane McDaniel of San Antonio; and great granddaughter, Olivia of Bandera; her brothers: Cosmo Guido and wife, Antoinette "Toni" Guido, and Louis L. Guido, Jr. and his wife, Agnes "Tootsie" Guido of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 23, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
Pallbearers will be: Tommy Guido, Louis Guido III, Bradley Moore, Justin Moore, Rodney McDaniel and Stanley Pisano. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Cosmo Guido, Louis L. Guido Jr., Eddie Monaco and Nic Catalani, Jr.
