

W. T. Bondurant, Jr. was born on August 24, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas to Gladys Tinsley and W. T. Bondurant, Sr. He graduated from San Antonio Academy, Texas Military Institute, and Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Bill received a Master of Arts Degree in English from Trinity University and studied Roman History at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. Bill was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the San Antonio Country Club, the Order of the Alamo and Texas State Guard. During World War II, he served in the Navy. "The Colonel" was honored in 2002 with the Lifetime Achievement Award given for Excellence in Education by the Ford Motor Company. In 1988, the Colonel received the Humanitarian Award from San Antonio Academy given in honor of his father. Col. W. T. Bondurant, Sr. The San Antonio City Council honored him the same year with an award for excellence in education. Bill served as President and Chairman of the Board of San Antonio Academy and also on the board of Texas Military Institute. He also served as President, Emeritus of San Antonio Academy and as member of the Academy's Alumni Council. He was among the Bondurant's honored when the San Antonio Academy's new Library was dedicated in their names. Bill was a charter member and founding Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was chairman of the board of the Presbyterian Home and Service Center. Bill served on the Texas Blue Ribbon Committee for two years. He married Kathryn Baldwin of Farmville, Virginia in 1947. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn and three children: William Thomas Bondurant III and wife Ruth; Carol Bondurant Rowland and husband Alan; and Linda Bondurant Burgtorf and husband Bradford. His four remaining grandchildren are Kathryn Green Harris, William Draper Green, Zachariah Bondurant Rowland and Rebecca Baldwin Rowland; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Bailey Harris; and his sister, Gladys Lee and husband, Bob Lee. Bill was preceded in death by his grandson, Wilson McCulloch Parkhouse. Active Pallbearers are: Draper Green, Zachariah Rowland, David Harris, Alan Rowland, Bradford Burgtorf and Joseph Harris. Honorary Pallbearers are: John McGar, Walter Armstrong, Porter Loring, Jr., Thad Ziegler, Wilber Littleton, John Webster, Ed Bondurant, Tom Frost, Dick Davis and Don Harrell.
