I just learned last week of the Colonel's passing. I attended the Academy from 1965-1967, when "both Colonels" were in charge. Col. Bondurant, you were a very special person. My mom and I thought the world of you and your dad. Watch over us, sir. James Hill

I have many fond memories of Col. Bondurant at the Academy. As one of only two Latin students in 7th and 8th grades, I had the opportunity to spend many hours with him. He taught me about Latin (we translated the vulgate), but also about literature, photography, the value of hard work, how to be a gentleman, and so many other things. To an 8th grader (and, I suspect, to so many others) he was bigger than life - a true Renaissance man. My condolences to the family.

Dear Kay: I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I was out of town and just heard about it within the past week. He was so much a part of the city and our education system that men of all ages will be saddened by his death. My thoughts are with you and your family.John Flannery

Kay, Tommy and Family,I have so many fond memories of Col. Bondurant. I am saddened by his passing but feel so blessed to have known him. His leadership and the Academy experience have had a profound effect on me and so many. The world is truly a better place because of The Colonel. We will miss him.

I had the pleasure of meeting W.T. Jr. several times --- a very wonderful person. However, it was his father, Col. W.T Bondurant Sr., with whom I had the most experience, while I was at San Antonio Academy. Col. Bondurant jokingly called me "Wack you Quack". Moreover, I was privileged to have been paddled several times by Col. Bondurant (all of which I deserved, of course). I recall one Sunday afternoon when he sent his daughter, Gladys, to fetch me on the campus, which she did, grabbing me by the ear and escorting me in. The Bondurants were a wonderful family.

I was saddened by the fact that I missed the services and the opportunity to say farewell with his many friends. Dear Mrs. Bondurant, Linda, Carol and Tommy-I was deeply saddened by the sudden death of your father and even moreso by the fact that I could not be at his service. I know it was a special and lovely tribute to him, although it would hard for anything to ever be truly fitting for such an incredible man. Growing up in your house-beginning at 7 years old (scary) holds so many memories! Coffee milk in the mornings after sleeping in Colonel B's t-shirts, all the SAA field trips, all the years SMU thru UT and beyond. We all somehow survived and you all have always had a special place in my heart. Linda-a BEST friend forever, we can always pick up where we left off!(again scary!) I hope all the wonderful, treasured memories of the one and only Colonel Bondurant will give you peace and comfort. He was a blessing to all he came in contact with-I know firsthand! Tom, I was so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. From reading his obituary & remembering you speak about him, he was quite a fine gentleman and I know, having lost my own dad several years ago, that it is so hard to lose someone so dear. May God bless you all during this difficult time. (In case you can't place who I am, Tom, I was the foreman on the Grand Jury with you.)

Colonel Bondurant has always been a great influence on my life. The many things he taught me can never be summed up by "book learning." A great man will be surely missed!

Dearest Kay and Family, Bobby and I join with you in the celebration of Bill's life as well as the sadness you feel in his passing. I have to say, we so respect and love him! What a man of great character and kindness. A man of faith. His love for you and your family as well as the family of God and everyone he met was evident. Bill wrote us emails all the time while we were in the Dominican Republic and our first years in Africa on the mission field, Always encouraging us to keep on working for the Lord. He was always uplifting us. On occasion he took us under his wing of wisdom and helped us see the bigger picture. Before we left, Bobby spent time with Bill, listening to stories of his family relatives. It was such a special way he had. He spent time with both of us weaving the family stories together, because he knew so well where we both come from. God is so faithful. We rejoice and thank Jesus that Bill is in heaven . That he has joined the great cloud of witnesses. And I can look up each day and know that BIll is there strengthening and encouraging the saints who knew him. May you be blessed, as I know you have been. We love you very very much. Wish we could fly over from Uganda to be there today on June 15th. To the Bondurant Family, Even though we were unable to attend the services for the Colonel, you are in our thoughts and our prayers. While Terry was a student at the Academy at the old location, he learned a lot from Colonel Bondurant and his Dad, Colonel Bondurant, Senior. When Terry became a student at San Antonio College, he lived and worked as a dormitory master and bus driver for the San Antonio Academy students. During that time, the Colonel was like a Dad to him. The Colonel's interest and involvement in Terry's life remains as one of Terry's most memorable and cherished experiences for him. The Colonel's encouragement led Terry to continue his education and become a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio. To all the Bondurants we send our love and condolences. To Linda, who I haven't seen since our days at SMH, now, especially, I want to say hello and send you a big hug. Your Dad was so special to everyone and Jim adored him. We loved seeing him and your Mom through the years.

I remember vividly, when I was new to SAA, my office was in the "dungeon." Colonel always stopped by to say hello and to tell me how much I was appreciated by SAA. That meant so much to me in those early days of my career here. Through the years, seeing him on campus was the highlight of my day. He was a gentle, loving and caring soul - I will miss him so much.May God comfort Kay and the family and all who were close to Colonel and loved him.Terri

We've been your neighbor and enjoyed your company for about 40 years. We've enjoyed talking over the fence with Col Bondurant and he always had a kind word. It doesn't seem possible that he is gone, but God needed him so we will hold him in our prayers.

I had the privilege of meeting Bill when I worked in the Southwestern Life office in the late 80's; he was a wonderful friend to me and was such a true gentleman. My late husband, Henry also had the utmost respect for him. I know that he will be deeply missed by many.

I am a fromer nurse at San Antonio Academy and I will always remember the Col as a true gentleman. The world has lost a great one. Your family is in my prayers.

When I think of the 5 people who have had the most profound influence on my life, "THE COLONEL" is certainly one of those.He was the epitome of what a teacher should be. He commanded respect and admiration and could bring out the best in his students. He used his incredible sense of humor to make his students want to be around him, want to learn from him.I remember the first time I ever saw him, I believe in 1955. I was actually a 2nd grader and still a year away from entering SAA. My brothers were students and I came to a review and this guy came out to address the cadets with both of his wrist in casts. I believe he had fallen off a ladder while hanging decorations for a dance. I remember thinking "That's one tough dude".I also remember the first time I saw his wife, Kay, and thinking "That's the absolute prettiest woman I've ever seen". It soon became evident that her beauty was both outside and inside.I could write volumes about what Bill Bondurant meant to me. I hope his grandchildren always know how many young men, and thus generations, were made better by knowing him.

We are honored to have known Bill Bondurant for too short a time. We add our prayers for God's peace to the many who offer them for Kay and their family.

I was very saddened to hear that Col. Bondurant had passed away. I am glad that I had seen him last weekend at La Fonda. I owe Col. a great deal for how I have turned out as a man. Bill's life was one of passion and honor and he has left an incredible legacy. He will be dearly missed.
