Walter was born on September 29, 1947, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, where the warmth of the islands seemed to imprint itself on his spirit. That same warmth would stay with him for the rest of his life, touching everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
A proud veteran, Walter served his country for several years in the U.S. Army, earning the respect of his fellow soldiers and planting the seeds of the discipline, loyalty, and quiet strength he would carry into everything he did.
After his military service, Walter settled into a long and fulfilling career at a Pearl Brewery, where he worked for over 25 years. He was a friend to everyone—always ready with a smile, a helping hand, or a heartfelt word of encouragement. But among his coworkers, he was especially known as “a friend of the common man,” someone who never looked down on anyone and always made everyone feel seen, heard, and valued.
After retiring from the brewery, Walter continued to serve others as a security guard, a job he took pride in and handled with the same dependability and no-nonsense attitude people had always known him for.
Walter’s life was rich with passion and joy. A natural athlete and lifelong sports fanatic, he especially loved football playing CYO football, even winning city championships while coached by his father, Walter J Denzer Sr. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, a UT fan, and a high school football enthusiast. Even though he was known for his pitching ability at Thomas Jefferson H S, he also ran track, and played some basketball. He continued to play adult softball into his fifties. Whether it was watching a big game or talking sports with friends, Walter brought knowledge, enthusiasm, and a healthy dose of humor.
He also had a deep love for music and food, two pleasures he loved to share with family and friends. Whether it was smoking his famous brisket on the weekend or putting on his favorite music while spending time at home, Walter made the ordinary moments unforgettable.
He was a faithful man, grounded in his devotion to God. His faith wasn’t loud—it was lived. You saw it in how he treated others, how he loved his family, and how he faced life’s highs and lows with grace. Walter was a kindhearted and devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal forever friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Walter Denzer, Sr.; brother, Mark Denzer; and sister, Josephine Denzer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 20 years, Veronica Faye “Ronni” Denzer; son, Joel W. Denzer; daughter, Elizabeth Blue (Ryan); grandson, Mark Ashton Denzer; brothers, John Patrick Denzer and Matthew Paul Denzer; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He also leaves behind a community of friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
