Walter K. Kerr

Walter graduated from Antonian College Preparatory High School in San Antonio, Texas, in 1968. He went on to attend Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he participated in ROTC and graduated in 1972.

Following graduation, Walter was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force with hopes of becoming a military pilot. His dream was to make a career in the Air Force and retire after 20 years of service, following in his father’s footsteps. During his flight qualification testing, however, Walter discovered that he was color blind, something he had not previously known, which prevented him from pursuing his dream of flying military aircraft.

After two years of service in the Air Force, Walter began a new chapter in his life and moved to Victoria, Texas, where he worked as a bank officer at Victoria Bank & Trust Co. He later became General Manager of Leonard Kovar Ford, where he spent 28 years. In 2004, Walter embarked on another career as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. He took great pride in his work and developed many close and lasting relationships with his clients before retiring in 2019.

Throughout his life, Walter enjoyed staying active. In his younger years, he loved playing racquetball at the YMCA, and later in life, golf became his favorite sport. Above all, one of Walter’s greatest joys was spending time with family and friends at the family ranch in Bigfoot, Texas—a place that held many cherished memories for him and those he loved.

Walter is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Kerr, his sons, Nathan (Laura) Kerr, of Houston, TX, Michael (Audri) Kerr, of Buda, TX; his daughter, Kelsey Kerr, of Victoria, TX; and his grandson, Hatch, of Houston, TX.

He is also survived by his brothers, Andy (Ginny) Kerr, of San Antonio, TX; Ken (Vivian) Kerr, of Dallas, TX; and his sisters, Carole Linton and Liz (Tullis) Thomas, of San Antonio, TX. In addition, his is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter will be laid to rest with Catholic burial rites and military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

A celebration of his life will be held at the family ranch at a later date.
