

Warner attended the University of Texas on a football scholarship where he joined the US Army ROTC, and met his future wife Marion Knippa before graduating in 1955. They married the summer after graduation. His first daughter Rebecca was born in 1957, and his second daughter Julie was born in 1959, before he served his first tour of duty in South Korea as a pilot. He later had two tours of duty in Vietnam in 1964 and 1968, before retiring in 1978 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He spent the next decades with his loving wife and two daughters, and worked for Bexar County as a Maintenance Commissioner until his retirement. He spent his retirement travelling and taking care of his animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orion and Mildred Baxter; and his daughter Julie Baxter. Warner was survived by his loving wife Marion Kanippa Baxter; daughter, Rebecca Little of Austin; granddaughter, Fiona Baxter of Austin; and his cats, Smokey and Mr. T.
