Wayne Earl Lemoine, age 83, passed away on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Worcester, MA to parents, Ernest H and Viola (Thompson) Lemoine. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Libby after 60 years of marriage. Wayne is survived by his children, Joseph W. Lemoine (Suzanne), Joanna O'Dowd (Marshall), Gina M. Renner (Joseph), Michael E. Lemoine (Grace), Sisters Mary Ivancic and Phyllis Lemoine-Piciulo (Buffalo, NY) and 10/4 grand / greatgrandchildren.
Wayne was a patriotic American son of French descent, as well as a brother, husband, father, and a well-respected uncle who had a keen financial acumen and was known for his often brutal honesty and candor both personally and professionally. Wayne entered active duty when he became a Commissioned Officer in the US Army in 1956 after Graduating from Canisius College, the first of his family to break the College ceiling which he did simultaneously by working full time as he started a young family. Wayne later earned a Master's Degree in Economics from Alfred University in 1967 while at the same time attaining the Rank of Captain in his reserve Army unit. Wayne brought the family to San Antonio in 1977 after being heavily sought out by St. Mary's University to be their Vice President of Financial Administration. Wayne's insistence on tight internal controls resulted in St. Mary's Fiesta "Oyster Bake" becoming a successful fund raising event for the University and its Scholarship programs. Wayne's 21 years of professional commitment to the Administration of Institutions of Higher Learning ensured that all of his children earned at least a 4 year college degree. Wayne, after succumbing to the allure of being a San Antonian and after ending his tenure at St. Mary's, decided to continue using his financial skills and launched a highly successful second career in Mortgage Banking, eventually owning his own Mortgage Company. Wayne's outreach extended into the San Antonio Community, where he was the President of the Oak Hills Rotary Club for several years. Wayne led an integral group of Oak Hills Rotarians in the development and deployment of the "Shrimp Fest" that raised much money for local charities. Rotary International later designated Wayne has a "Paul Harris Fellow" for his contributions to Rotary International and its mission. Wayne was also an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church community and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra's, and was a Eucharistic Minister.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with a ROSARY immediately following at 7pm.
