Wayne Elgin Zamzow, known to many as WOW, passed away on February 3, 2024, doing what he loved: hunting with his best friend. He was born in San Antonio on December 3, 1950, to Genevieve and Elgin Zamzow. He lived in St. Hedwig for most of his childhood and attended school at East Central High School. He was no stranger to weekend dances, where he met many of his lifelong friends, including his wife,Doris. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023.Wow was always the life of the party wherever he went. His larger-than-life personality ensured that he never met a stranger, and he lived by the motto “Work hard, play harder.” Many weekends were spent driving to dance halls with a car full of kids, trying to teach them all how to dance. Hunting season was spent at the ranch taking his grandkids out to shoot anything that moved. Summer was spent fishing at Port Mansfield and Port A, trying to limit out or at least have the best story about “the one that got away.” Wow loved horses and trail riding with friends and family, along with day trips to Canyon Lake, taking anyone brave enough on the "eight-second ride." Everyone knew that Wayne and Doris always had an open-door policy, with no questions asked, to any friends or family in need. He will be remembered with his cowboy hat on, beer in hand, a smile on his face, and yelling “Tonight we ride!” He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Elgin Zamzow; father-in-law, Henry Laubach; and brother-in-law, Edward Laubach. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Dana, Jana, and Lana; sons-in-law, Danny Sorbel, Russell Dauphin, and Nik Libson; Grandchildren, Landon, Walker, Ryder, Kash, Ryland, Harlyn, and Emery; mother-in-law, Audrey Laubach; sisters, Joanne Zamzow and Carolyn Zamzow.
