

Wilber grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico and graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. We are proud of his distinguished career in the military service during World War II during which he rose to the rank of Major, and received the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Wilber served as Chairman of the San Antonio Zoning and Planning Commission and a director of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the San Antonio Homebuilders Association and the Urban Renewal Agency. Among his many activities, Wilber was a charter member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees.
He was a former President of the Woodlawn Optimist Club, a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, and an organizer of the Northwest Branch of the YMCA. Wilber was a member of the San Antonio Homebuilders Association, a founding director for the Alamo Savings and Loan Association and served on the board of Jefferson State Bank.
He enjoyed his years on the board of Trustees for Methodist Hospital from 1955 - 1980, serving on the Methodist Healthcare Ministries Board and the San Antonio Medical Foundation, and being a member of the South Texas Farm and Ranch Club. Wilber was a member of the San Antonio Sail and Power Squadron. He cherished his many friendships throughout the years.
Wilber was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 64 years, Alma Beauchamp Fite. He is survived by his children, Richard Fite, Pat Fite, Eddie and Aimee Fite, Marjorie and Kit Sommer, grandchildren Kim and Brad Atkison, John and Sara Sommer, Amy and Brad Hardin, Sarah and Alf Pasquel, Lara and Todd Woody, Brenton Fite, and ten great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who loved and cared for him so graciously for the last year. Also, they would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their caring service these last few weeks.
