Colonel William Spencer Carpenter, Jr. USAF Ret., born on May 27, 1924 in Menominee, Michigan, was called by Our Lord on Friday, November 8, 2002. He was a graduate of West Point and he served his country for 30 years and participated in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During Colonel Carpenter's illustrious flying career he received numerous decorations including the Legion of Merit. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1976, he worked as a consultant for the Alamo Area Council of Government. During his retirement years, he enjoyed golf, writing, publishing, developing business opportunities, spoiling his dogs and gardening. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jean Carpenter. William is survived by his second wife, Mariette Carpenter nee Bourdeau, his son William Carpenter III, his daughters, Laurie McDonald and husband John, Abbie Dentry and husband David, Maryrose Barker and husband Ed, Kathleen Carpenter, Martha Carpenter and husband Drew Birnbaum; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joan Borer and Mary Jayne Waibel.
