

William Thomas Chumney, Jr. went to be with our Lord on June 16, 2015, at the age of 88. Bill was born on November 1, 1926 to Winifred Swearingen Chumney and William Thomas Chumney, Sr., and was a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Bill served in the Pacific during WWII on the USS Sperry. He graduated from the University of Texas, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He subsequently received his JD in 1951 from the University of Texas School of Law. Bill began a lifelong career as a CPA with Carneiro Chumney & Co., where he retired as Managing Partner. After his retirement, Bill joined the Trust Department at Jefferson Bank. Chumney was a very active member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden on four separate occasions. Bill also served in the San Antonio community throughout his life. He was President of the local chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, President of the San Antonio Symphony, President of the Order of the Alamo, and a member of the San Antonio German Club, the San Antonio Country Club, and the Conopus Club of San Antonio. He served on the Board of Directors of North Frost Bank, Texas Osage Royalty Pool, Saint Mary's Hall, Villa Finale, and The Seminary of the Southwest. Bill is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Betty Brewer Chumney, and three daughters: India Chumney Guilbot, Winifred Chumney Meaden (David H. Meaden), Elizabeth Chumney Breazeale (Jeffrey D. Breazeale), grandchildren: William U. deMarigny (Catherine B. deMarigny), Elizabeth M. deMarigny, Michael L. Meaden (Meredith M. Meaden), Adair M. Neely (Robert B. Neely, Jr.), Peter B. Meaden, Aubrey B. Breazeale, Josephine H. Breazeale, Amie B. Moore and great grandchildren Taylor W. and Andrew R. deMarigny. Bill is also survived by his brother, Patrick Swearingen Chumney (Candes P. Chumney), sister-in-law Rebecca E. Brewer, nephew Robert S. Brewer, cousins (and surrogate sons), Kevin H. Moore (Tracy D. Moore), and Todd R. Moore, and numerous other family members. The Chumney family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Alamo Heights, Heart to Heart Hospice, Visiting Angels, and especially to Karin Seabrook for her loyal and ever faithful care.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 2015 AT 11:00 A.M. AT CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 510 BELKNAP PLACE, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78212.
