

During WWII, Captain Johnson served with the 1251st Infantry Combat Engineers and later served during the Korean War. He was a beloved family physician back when house calls were the norm.
The care for generations of patients continued well past his retirement.
Many fondly remember him sitting on the sidelines as the Alamo Heights School District team doctor. He was a true friend, maintaining friendships as long as 80 years.
Bill was the life of every gathering of friends and family with his keen sense of humor and remarkable memory.
Bill and Clarita shared many interests in addition to their extended family, such as traveling, golf, visits to their home in Rockport, gardening, and tending to their aviary, monkeys and household pets.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Janice Haase; sister, Mary Moon; and brother, Robert W. Johnson.
Survivors: wife, Clarita Johnson; children, Ruth Ann Gambino; Nancy Nystrom and husband, Jon, West Hartford, CT; Rita Schimpff and husband, Skip; and Pete Rozelle, Jr. and dear friend, Liz Hyslop and her daughter, CeCe, all of San Antonio; 5 grandchildren, Michael and Elena Gambino, Alice Nystrom, Carter and Carrie Schimpff; numerous beloved nieces and nephews
