Colonel William A. McLellan, U.S. Army (ret.) went home to be with the Lord on July 21 in San Antonio, Texas. He began a 34-year U.S. Army career in 1941 and served in the Pacific theatre during WWII and in Korea during the Korean War. His distinguished military service earned him three Legion of Merit medals and the Bronze Star. Born in San Antonio on August 25, 1917, he completed a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 1970, as Adjutant General of Fourth Army in Ft. Sam Houston, he was voted Boss of the Year by the ABWA. Colonel Mac married his wife Emy in September, 1948 and adored her for 63 years.
He is survived by Emy, their son Bill and wife Jennie, son Sam and wife Lynn, son Tom, grandson Patrick and wife Ashley, and granddaughter Lauren.
He was first and last, a humble servant leader -- for his family, for his friends, for his country, and for his God. A man of steadfast integrity who loved others above himself, he was a man after God's own heart.
On Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 9:30 a.m., he will be buried with full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. He is sorely missed already.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Colonel William A. McLellan's name to The National WWII Museum, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
