William George Mitchell

Dr. William G. Mitchell never retired. He did undergraduate work in the College of Business at the University of Illinois, received an MBA from the University of Chicago, and was awarded a PhD in Marketing from Arizona State university. Over his career he was Vice President for Administration for Carson Pirie Scott and Co. in Chicago, an Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Texas at San Antonio and taught in the UTSA Executive MBA Program. He served as Vice President of Marketing for a San Antonio advertising firm and was Director of Marketing for the Straus-Frank company. He served on many boards and helped many non-profits. Bill was a member of the Coker Methodist Church for over 30 yrs. He sang in the choir and served on multiple committees. He was active in the Coker Players and performed with the ensemble “Anything A Capella”. Recently he’s been teaching at the Academy of Learning in Retirement. On August 18th he officially retired to be with his soul mate Joan, who has been waiting for him for 7 years. Bill taught us all how to live. He is survived by his sons Steve, Dirk and Adam, three daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on Oct.14, 2023 at Coker Methodist Church, 231 E North Loop Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216
