Born in West Columbia, Texas on Nov. 1, 1924 to the late Minnie Eakin Pack and Robert Taylor Pack, Bill, as his friends called him, served honorably in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and graduated from Southwestern University. He worked as a coach briefly in Jourdanton and signed on with Humble Oil Co., later Exxon, in 1951. He remained with Exxon for about 40 years, working in a Jourdanton-area production plant, Houston, Kingsville and Corpus Christi, where he and his wife were devoted members of the First Baptist Church. Bill moved to San Antonio in 2005 to be closer to his children.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Margery Martin Pack, by his son-in-law, Bruce DeLecour, his grandson, Jason DeLecour and his brother, Robert Wilson Pack. Bill lived a life of quiet dignity, duty, generosity and love. He, like many others of his generation, kept a good and steadfast promise. For that, his family and the country he loved rejoice.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn DeLecour, of San Antonio; two sons and daughters-in-law, William M. Pack and Lisa M. Pack, of San Antonio, and David T. Pack and Angie Pack, of Sugar Land; granddaughters, Taylor A. Pack, of San Antonio, Regan A. Pack, of San Marcos, and Shauna Marie Pack of Sugar Land; a sister, Urline Krenek of East Bernard; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss him greatly.
