William Vernon Pate, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in San Antonio, Tx. He was born on December 2, 1928 in San Antonio, Tx to Edgar and Charleta Pate. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
He was an extremely hard worker who also instilled the same value into each of his children. He was dedicated to his sons and the Boy Scouts of America as he was the Scout Master for many years. He painted courthouses, schools, apartments, cars, trucks, and motorcycles, sandblasted and painted water towers. In his early days he also enjoyed building and racing hotrods and motorcycles with his buddies. He loved to work in his yard planting gardens and caring for his pecan trees. He looked forward to spending countless hours shelling his pecans every year. He also loved to spend his evenings watching old westerns.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Vernon Pate, his mother, Charleta Josephine Pate, granddaughter, Jennifer Rose Pate, and his fishing buddy, Tom Canada.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laura Faye Pate and beloved dog, Missy; 5 Children, Bob (Connie) Pate, Jo (Mark) Westmoreland, Bill Pate, Jr., Terri (Donnie) Harborth and Larry (Tina) Pate; 13 grandchildren, Eddie Pate, Andy Pate , Chris Pate, Tony Dillard, Brandy (Cody) Grubbs, Cristi (Troy) Biehle, William (Jacqueline) Pate, Mike (Marci) Pate, Laura (Scott) Rodmaker, Tommy (Tiffany) Canada, Sami Pate, Mandi Pate, Christian Perez; 14 great grandchildren, Leslie (Jodonnis) Jackson, Colton Roberts, Zach Pate, Chloe Pate, Colton Dillard, K’lee and K’dyn Grubbs, Jadyn and Jace Biehle, Carmen and Juliana Pate, Shaylee Rodmaker, Hunter and Lane Canada, and friends.
The visitation will be 11 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 with the Funeral Service to follow at 12 noon at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
