

William Ellsworth "Bill" Patterson was born September 10, 1931 in Forsyth, Montana and died December 23, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. The son of an oilfield worker William K. Patterson and Neva Vogt Patterson, he lived in Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas before a farm life in Missouri. He graduated from MO School of Mines in 1953. After service in the US Navy, he had a 38-year career with Shell Oil Company. He obtained an MBA degree at Fairleigh Dickinson Univ. in New Jersey. He taught economics and investment analysis to Shell engineers and geologists in the US and Canada. He developed Shell's first programs for corporate budgeting, forecasting and economic analysis.
After retiring, Bill was active in exhibiting Cardigan Welsh Corgis at dog shows. He published a newsletter that won awards from the Dog Writers Association of America. He narrated a program about pets on OWL radio station in San Antonio and was a tutor with the OASIS group. He had a life-long interest in music and theological studies and owned an extensive personal library.
Bill established the Patterson Family Scholarships in Bolivar, Missouri, with awards each year to the top two high school graduates. In 1953 in Newport, Rhode Island he married Elizabeth Fotelis, a soprano who graduated from New England Conservatory and Julliard School of Music. Together they established the Elizabeth Patterson Scholarships at Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. She passed away in 2009.
In 2011 Bill married June Dee McGee Ph.D. in San Antonio. Together they enjoyed symphony concerts and cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and the Baltic Sea countries. They taught courses at the Academy for Learning in Retirement (ALIR) in San Antonio.
He is survived by his wife June, his son "Bud" Patterson in Houston, daughters Karyle Beitman of Ketchikan, Alaska and Suzie Williams of Austin, seven grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
