William Bernard Schwab passed away on May 16, 2025 at the age of 91. Bill was born on January 14, 1934 in La Feria, Texas, to parents Frank and Marie Schwab. After high school, he served two years in the Navy during the Korean War before attending Southwest Texas State and graduating with a business degree in 1958. His career as a credit manager included more than 40 years of service with various companies including Dun & Bradstreet, L.D. Brinkman, Perry Shankle, and Carrier.
Bill married the love of his life, Jo Ann Powers Bragg on June 26, 1987 with whom he enjoyed fishing, dancing, traveling, and attending Mass at St. Helena's. Known for his never-ending stories, Bill cherished his memories of growing up in the valley, his service on a Navy submarine, his shenanigans in college, his trips with Jo Ann, and his visits with his children as well as his many special friendships throughout life.
Bill is survived by his wife Jo Ann of almost 38 years, his daughters Charla Sartain (Dennis) of Baton Rouge, LA; Sabrina Porter (Joel) of Howard, CO; and son Jason Schwab (Karen) of Boerne, TX as well as the mother of his children Stella DeVoise; brothers Jerome Schwab, Randolph Schwab (Tina), Ronald Schwab, and sister-inlaw Edna Schwab. Bill was also blessed with six stepchildren, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marie Schwab; brothers Frank Schwab, Jr., and Robert Schwab; sister Lucille Gabriel; brother-in-law Don Gabriel; sisters-in-law Betty Schwab, and Judy Schwab.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, with the Rosary to immediately follow at 6:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025, at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 14714 Edgemont St., San Antonio, TX 78247 with graveside service immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
Pallbearers will be Jason Schwab, Dennis Sartain, Tom Bragg, and Willie Meznarich
