LaRue Sparkman, of San Antonio, died April 17, 2004 after a recent illness at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Grace and W. L. Sparkman and his sister, Eugenia Vaughan. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Lori and her husband, Joe Stewart; sister, Rosemary Siek; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a charter member of the Live Oak Lions Club. LaRue received the 1993 Volunteer Recognition Award from Texas Parks and Wildlife for service at Hill Country State Natural Area.
