

William Brown Townsend, born April 6, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, to Albert Ross Townsend, Sr. and Lucile Magness Townsend, passed away June 21, 2009 at the age of 80.
His parents and first wife Mary Alice, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Elise Bilhartz Townsend; sons, William B. Townsend, Jr. and his wife, Deni, and Robert S. Townsend; granddaughter, Jaclyn Lackey and her husband, Jason; great-grandson, William Weston Lackey; a brother, Albert Ross Townsend, Jr, and his wife, Jeanne; stepson, Russell E. Hinote Diane; stepdaughters, Elise L. Frierson John, and Patricia A. Ford Tim; stepgrandchildren, John Hinote Mistie, David Hinote, Everett Hinote, Emily Moore Jared, Jennica, Anne Susen, Mitchell Ford, Brandon Ford and Caroline Ford; two nephews and one niece.
After graduating from Jefferson High School he served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from St. Mary's University and then served as an officer in the United States Air Force.
His lifetime career began with Mobile Oil Company, and ultimately became owner and executive manager of the family insurance business, Billy Greaves Insurance Agency, from which he retired.
He was a 50 year member of Masonry, Perfect Union Lodge #10; member of Alzafar Shrine, Directors Staff and Rod and Gun Club, Scottish Rite, Alamo Heights Eastern Star, Parkinson's Support Group, San Antonio Conservation Society, State Association of Texas Pioneers, Laurel Heights Super Adults, Advisory Board of Nix Senior Gold, Docent at Institute of Texas Cultures 8 yrs; Castro Heritage Society, Texas Archeology Society 45 yrs., and a long time member and usher at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
