Bill Zimmermann, lifelong Texan, passed away August 15, 2026. A Robert E Lee graduate, followed by New Mexico Military Institute, University of Texas in Austin, and earned his CPA license after graduating from St. Mary's University in San Antonio.
As an avid animal lover, Bill had several cats and dogs of his own over the years. He was dedicated to feeding feral cats twice daily at a nearby park. He was gentle-hearted, soft-spoken, with a spiritual soul. He was a devoted son and loving brother. His sense of humor will be sorely missed.
Bill's military service ended as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps with an honorable discharge after fighting in the Vietnam War. He was awarded a commendation medal as First Lieutenant for his service, technical skill in supporting tireless military fire in heavy artillery, and maneuvering infantry units. He earned the respect of those who served with him as he upheld the finest traditions of the Marine Corps.
In his personal career, Bill was first a state comptroller, then employed by Valero. He earned his CPA license in 1976 and opened his private practice. He worked through the 2026 tax season from his home.
As a youngster, Bill could be found on the tennis courts even in the Texas heat, or at a bowling alley as a team member, and played golf in his leisure time. Musically talented, he took piano lessons and beautifully played piano. He went on to teach himself harmonica, guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Folk music was his passion.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Bea Zimmermann, brother, Richard Zimmermann, and sister, Pat Safir. He is survived by his sister, Judi Mixson, and brother-in-law, Bill Mixson, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Graveside service will be held Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10 am at Temple Beth-El's Memorial Park Cemetery at 1715 Austin Highway. Rabbi Falco is officiating the service. With a live stream available at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/c26084902720711.
