

She grew up with 6 siblings: Lillie Mae, Maggie M., Ruth Helen, Laurice Lucille, Eddie Jr., and Erna Rose Bryant.
She attended primary and secondary schools in the San Antonio Public School District, graduating from Phillis Wheatley High school in 1948. She furthered her education with classes at St. Phillips Professional College.
Willie Mae McVea married her high school sweetheart, Norris L. McVea on December 20, 1948, and enjoyed married life for 69 years before his death. To this union two children were born, Audrie McVea Lawton and Norris McVea. Jr.
Willie Mae united with the Baptist faith at an early age. With members of the Bryant family, she came from the Baptist Settlement to the New Light Baptist Church where she remained a member for over 80 years. She was an active Sunday School teacher, church clerk, courtesy coordinator, ministers and deacon wife’s member, nursery school volunteer and Baptist Training Union worker. She was Mother of the year in 2007.
She worked and retired as a Reading Specialist and Teachers Aide with the San Antonio Independent School District.
Willie Mae was a member of the Moussa Court #119 and the Imperial Court, Daughter of Isis.
She remained active in the Phillis Wheatley Class of 1948 Alumnus. She enjoyed traveling and working in her garden. She was also an avid Bible study student; she completed a 7-year bible training course.
She is survived by her daughter, Audrie Lawton, grandchildren, Norris (III) and Grace McVea; Justin McVea and Tiffany Bodden; Courtney McVea; Audrie Lawton-Evans and Kerry Evans; Sister Erna Rose Bryant and sisters in law Lonzetta Bryant and Irene McVea, great grandchildren, Sydney Jolivette, Shelby Jolivette, Noah Wood, Jayden McVea, Madison McVea and Justice McVea, Allie McVea, Trinity McVea and many other, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her, parents Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Bryant Sr, beloved husband Norris McVea, Sr, son, Norris McVea Jr., sisters Lillie Mae McCullough, Laurice Barnes, Helen Ruth Netherly, Maggie M. Hart and brother Eddie Bryant Jr.
