Wilma Jean (Brown) Broyles went to her eternal home in Heaven on August 2, 2020 at the age of 89 years. She was born to George Leonard Brown and Edna Estelle (Ross) Brown on January 5, 1931 in Ellis County, Oklahoma. She lived her early life with two sisters and three brothers in Higgins, Texas. She attended West Texas State Teachers College (now West Texas A & M University) majoring in elementary education.
Jean, as she was known to most people, married Gordon Luther Broyles on August 20, 1951 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Gordon was in the US Air Force when they married so they became a military family and continued to be a military family for 20 years. She and Gordon had five children over the years: Steven Dale, Debra Ann, David Gordon, Roberta Gail, and Valerie Ruth. At the time of her death she had six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Jean took her first paying job outside the home at Montgomery Wards in Hillcrest Heights Maryland in 1968. In 1971, she began working at the Sears Catalog Store in the Valley Hi Mall in San Antonio, Texas. She eventually transferred to the Ingram Park Mall Sears Store and worked there until she retired in 1986. While at Sears she worked as a salesclerk and in Customer Service.
In 1985 she began the Grandmother job, which she enjoyed immensely. Well, she LOVED being a Grammy!
Jean was a Christian and a lifelong Southern Baptist. Jean, Gordon, and family always found a church to call home after each military ordered move. Church family was a source of great comfort and help to the family and to Jean, especially in times when Gordon was deployed out of the country. She spent the last 23 years as a member of Village Parkway Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas.
