

Wilma Louise Ludwig Townsend “Willie or Aunt Peanut”, wonderful aunt, wife, and friend, passed away on June 27, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. Willie was born on May 13, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Herff Elementary, Poe Junior High, and Brackenridge High School.
Willie married Charles Townsend in 1979 and moved to the Dallas area. She loved to talk about her family! Willie was also a very loyal friend and would do anything to help you. Willie was an excellent cook and known for her famous fried chicken and macaroni & cheese. She held jobs with the Dallas County Probation Department, did office work for a trucking company, and worked at Porter Loring. She was a life-long Lutheran, being baptized and confirmed at Highland Park Lutheran Church in San Antonio where her father served as head usher. Her confirmation bible verse is “Delight thyself in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalm 37:4. Willie helped create a train, with her sister Jeanette, for her niece Johanna for the Lutheran Coronation. Willie also loved dogs! She had many throughout the years and she always gave them exceptional care including Blitchen, Heidi, Seymour, Gizmo, Shiloh, Mandi Lou, and Angel. Willie also had Texas A&M University mascot dog, Reveille, come to her house for a visit.
Willie was predeceased by her husband, Charles Townsend; mother, Frieda Johanna Rieger Ludwig; father, Joseph Ludwig; brother, Felix Ludwig (World War II veteran), and his wife, Martha; and sister, Jeanette Ludwig Atkinson. She is survived by Jeanette’s husband, Harold O’Hanlon Atkinson; niece, Johanna Atkinson Christiansen and husband, Brian, nephew, James Joseph Atkinson nd wife, Megan; nephews, Jodie Ludwig, Ricky Ludwig and wife, Vickie; nieces, Linda Pawkett, Jeanette Ludwig and Karen Ludwig; and great nieces/nephews, Sophia Jeanette Schramm Christiansen, Harold Victor Gustav Christiansen, Tessa Louise O’Hanlon Christiansen, Andrew Michael Atkinson, Julia Claire Atkinson, Kate Jeanette Atkinson, Sharon Pawkett, David Pawkett, Autumn Phillips, Angela Beasley, and Ricky Ludwig; along with numerous great-great nieces and nephews and lifelong friends Lynn Hesler, Patrick Loring, and Stephanie Fuqua.
The memorial service is Wednesday, July 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park Lutheran Church, located at 705 Hammond Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78210.
