

Winston Alton Simmonds, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Monday May, 16, 2011 at the age of 86. Winston was born on October 9, 1924 in Vernon, Texas. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1942. Winston enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of WW II. He served with distinction aboard the destroyer, USS Casco throughout the Pacific Theater of Operations from 1942 to 1945. In August of 1945, Winston married his high school sweetheart, Eva Mae Adams in Vernon, TX. He later attended Texas Christian University and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. In 1955, Winston joined San Antonio based Mission Pharmacal Company and rose through the ranks to Executive Vice-President. He retired from Mission Pharmacal Company in 1996 after 41 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed traveling extensively with Eva in their RV to all 50 states. He also enjoyed fly fishing in Colorado, traveling with his family, and cherished his time with his grandchildren. Winston was always there with a friendly smile, words of encouragement, a big hug and a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He is preceded in death by his parents Hazel and J.Q. Simmonds. Winston is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eva; son Gary Simmonds and his wife Patricia of San Antonio; daughter Sheri Duncan and husband James of Comfort; grandchildren Amy and Jay Duncan. He is also survived by his sister Quincy Crawford of San Antonio, his brother Darrell Simmonds of Denton and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
