Yolanda was born to Virginia and Sgt Arturo Barraza on August 25, 1942 in San Antonio, TX. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1960 where she enjoyed being a member of NHS, Student Council and the cheerleading squad. She began her career in civil service at Kelly AFB shortly thereafter. She retired in 1991.
Yolanda was a lifetime resident of San Antonio. Her love of her city led her to serve as a Commissioner for the San Antonio Housing Authority. In later years the NAHRO (National Association Housing and Redevelopment Officials) appointed her to several national committees.
Yolanda was full of life and always involved in various projects. She put her talents to work each year by organizing the rummage sale for Our Lady of Grace Youth Ministry.
She took pride in helping her friends and loved ones with do-it-yourself projects, decorating, and anything else to make their homes more beautiful.
Yolanda’s vibrant personality and caring nature led her to have many wonderful and lasting friendships in her 73 years. Yolanda could be counted upon at all times to help a friend move, paint, or just offer life counsel. She was a mentor to many. She helped much but asked only for friendship in return.
She loved to travel to Las Vegas and Washington D.C. Yolanda was notoriously lucky and always came back a winner from any casino she visited. Her favorite destination was Chicago where she visited her son and his family.
