Young Rok Robertson, affectionately known as “Miss Young”, 79, of San Antonio, Texas, devoted wife, beautiful mother, loving grandmother, retired beautician, successful beauty shop owner, and restaurateur, passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born to the late Byung Hwa Chang (father) and Kyung Ran Lee (mother) in Korea, November 28, 1941. During the Korean war original family records were lost or destroyed; 1943 was recorded as her birth year after the war.
During her 30+ years as a beautician, Young loved interacting with her customers. Each customer was treated to more than just a haircut, color, or perm. Words of wisdom were dispensed free of charge. Customers were also treated to a view of three pictures prominently displayed at her workstation. Her three children, Gene, Calvin, and Cindy, all graduated from Texas A&M University. Her proudest accomplishment was providing a college education to her three children. With each customer, she would share her heartfelt pride. Young was a true Aggie Mom - Gig’Em Aggies!
Young is preceded in death by husband Verlin G. Bryant, and sister Young Ja Lee. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, William A. Robertson, Chief Warrant Officer – 4 (Ret) United States Army; her three children: Gene Bryant, Calvin Bryant and Cindy Bryant Hedrick; son and daughters-in-laws: Andy Hedrick, Sunny Bryant and Esmeralda Bryant; two step children: Jim Robertson and Kathy Robertson; six grandchildren: Ashley Bryant, Annalin Bryant, Nathan Bryant, Joshua Bryant, Dillon Hedrick and Matthew Hedrick; and three brothers: Young Il Chang, Tak Jin Chang and Joon Chang.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a memorial donation in the name of Miss Young to Arden Courts of San Antonio; (210) 408-9100, [email protected].
