We celebrate the life of Ysrael 'Roy' Guajardo, Sr., faithful servant of the Lord, who passed away at 11:13pm on Thursday, December 17th, 2020. Ysrael, Sr. was born in Seguin, TX on November 16th, 1943. He married his childhood sweetheart Delia Aguilar at Bethania Pentecostal Church on September 17, 1967. Dad loved telling Mom: "Delia, do you know how much I love you?" She was his queen. He is preceded in death by his mother Belia G. Guajardo, father Frutoso Guajardo, Sr., brother Frutoso Guajardo, Jr., brother Cornelio Guajardo, Sr., and grandchild Acacia Maria Cantellop. His surviving siblings are Eleazar Guajardo (Gloria), Ernestina Villalon (Julio), Rachel Hernandez, Roberto Guajardo (Mary), and Elma Guajardo.
Ysrael, Sr. was married for 53 years to his loving wife and queen Delia A. Guajardo. They were blessed with three children together: Ysrael Izzy' Guajardo, Jr. (Noemi Melchor), Gilberto A. Guajardo (Veronica), and Rebecca Delia Cantelllop (John). In addition, there were 10 grandchildren he dearly loved. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and lovingly embraced his nieces and nephews. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1963 and honorably served his country in the United States Army. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 40 years.
While there, he enjoyed playing in the softball and basketball leagues. He was thankful for his own father showing him how to work construction at a young age, which led him to enjoy being outside working on his woodwork in his retirement years. He learned country dancing with his wife (to which they got many compliments), along with playing his accordion and guitar. Watching old western shows featuring Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and John Wayne brought him much joy. Ysrael, Sr.'s community involvement included being co-founder of the U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association, consultant for S.A. Community Pride PATV Public, Cesar E. Chavez Legacy & Educational Foundation, and Thomas Jefferson High School Band Boosters.
He served God, family, and community. Richard Gawlik was his best friend. Richard's friendship was a blessing in his life. He appreciated Joey Castellano and Jose Rodriguez for their loyalty in supporting his wife. Special thanks to his niece Michelle Medrano. Dad was highly respected amongst his friends, neighbors, and peers. He was devoted to reading his Bible on a nightly basis and truly admired old fashioned church hymns. We thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support. Merry Christmas, Dad. We will always love you more. Your legacy and memories will live on within our hearts. God Bless.
